Two day Faculty development program on Research Avenues in Biometrics and Forensic Science was conducted by Department of Instrumentation Technology and Department of MCA, SJCE, Mysore on 24.6.2016 and 25.6.2016.

Ms Mamatha K and Ms Sowmya V of Computer Science and Engineering Department, TJIT attended this two days faculty development program.

On day 1, the event started with inauguration by B K Singh, Dy. SP of Mysore, followed by session on “Forensic Anthropology” by Dr. Chinmayi, Department of Forensic medicine JSSMCR Centre, Mysore. She shared her experience on the cases she worked on and briefed about real time applications of Biometric and Forensic science.

This was followed by the session on “Forensic Radiology” by Dr. Rajesh Raman, Prof. Dept. of Radio diagnosis, JSSMCR, Mysore. He briefed on Radiological methods that are widely used in identification, age estimation and establishing cause of death.

Next session was on “Affective computing a tool for forensics” by Dr. G Shivakumar, Prof. and Head, Dept. of IT, MCE, Hassan. He briefed about the study and development of systems and devices that can recognize, interpret, process, and simulate human affects.

1st day ended with the session on “Possible forgery detection through computer vision” by Dr. S Murali, Prof. Department of computer science MIT, Mysore. He briefed on the concept of computer vision and its application for forgery detection.

The first session on day2 was on “Person identification based on Biometric Parameters” by Dr. Mallikarjun S. Holi, Prof. and chairman, Dept of IT &E, UBDTCE, Davangere. He briefed on biometric identifiers and dealt in depth with Gait trait.

Followed by session on “Research opportunities and the future of biometrics” by Dr. Nagendraswamy H S, Prof, dept. of computer science, university of mysore, Mysore. He briefed on the open research areas of biometrics and forensic science.

Next session was on “Data Analytics in forensic science” by Dr. Punitha P, Technical manager, IBM, Bangalore. She briefed on analysis of forensic science data.
