VTU-VGST sponsoredFaculty Development Program (FDP) on ANDROID OPERTING SYSTEM AND APPLICATION PROGRAMMING DEVELOPMENT organized by Global Academy of Technology for four days from 15th to 18th June, 2015 was inaugurated by Sri. Vijay Pandey, Founder Director, AdvantTechservices India Pvt. Ltd.  The vision was to develop and promote the spirit of science and technology to faculties, enabling them to have hands on feel of android technology and its applications. The core belief was in propagating the concept of “learning by doing” – Knowledge by action.

            Android is an operating system for mobile devices such as smart phones and tablet computers. It was developed by the Open Handset Alliance led by Google. Android has exploded onto the scene, with the number of Android devices set to rise exponentially and things will only get better.

            The FDP took place in classroom like atmosphere, with a desktop in hand. It started right from set up to testing on device. Faculties were introduced to basics of Android OS work through modules throughout the day. The modules included designing effective navigation, hooking up widgets such as buttons, list views, interfacing GPS etc. To top it off, the faculties built a sample projects that could be taken for modification. The classes were designed to demonstrate best practices for solving common Android development problems. Each class explained the steps required to solve a problem, or implement a feature with code snippets and sample code for to use within the apps.

            Mr. Raghavendra, Android application developer, Kaiten software Ltd. was the trainer for 3 days, who had relevant experience in the field and have also conducted the same in various engineering colleges across Karnataka.

            Out of four days of FDP, one day was an industrial visit to International Flower Auction Bangalore Ltd and Sasken Communication Technologies, Begaluru, India.

            The FDP was attended by Ms. Roopashree S, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Computer Science and Engineering, TJIT along with other 34 faculties across various engineering colleges in Karnataka.
